Cumberland Oaks - Wilson County, TN
On a scenic bluff overlooking the Cumberland River in Wilson County, TN lies Cumberland Oaks, a place where history, family, and nature intertwine. Originally acquired in 1993 by Narvel Blackstock and Reba McEntire, the property had long served as a family retreat. In thinking about the lands next chapter, their son, Shelby Blackstock and his development partner Austin Recht hired TPUDC to lead a team in creating a plan for the property that preserved its natural character while shaping it for the future.
In October 2023, TPUDC hosted a six-day public design charrette, inviting community collaboration to craft the first draft of the Master Plan. The plan was rooted in a deep respect for nature, emphasizing tree preservation, careful attention to topography, and the creation of a neighborhood organized around open spaces. With a mix of lot sizes and a design that encourages a multigenerational community, Cumberland Oaks is envisioned as a place where everyone can find their home.
Following the charrette, TPUDC refined the Master Plan and produced a one-of-a-kind Planned Unit Development (PUD) submittal that guided the project through the tough entitlement process in Wilson County. The result is something truly unique — a community unlike anything the county has seen before.
